On October 2, composer, trumpet and vocalist Jennifer Hartswick will release her new album True via Trey Anastasio’s Rubber Jungle Records. A consummate performer and alumnus of Anastasio’s solo bands over the past decade, Hartswick is equally at home singing soul, funk, pop and R&B, but her passion without question is jazz. Clocking in at slightly under an hour, True features seven of Jennifer’s favorite jazz standards, including “Every Breath I Take”, “Nature Boy”, “Gentle Rain”, centered around the haunting original composition, “You Own Me.”
True comes as a fresh statement from the vocalist and trumpeter, a look forward while harkening back to her roots. “Jazz is the music closest to my heart.” Says Hartswick, “It makes more sense to me than any other music. It’s what I grew up on. It is who I am.”
